École secondaire en terre à Djilakh, au Sénégal

Earth-built secondary school in Djilakh

Contexte :

Context:

In the rural village of Djilakh, more than 4,000 inhabitants have two primary schools but no secondary school. The competition called for a sustainable school that could be built with simple techniques and local resources, on an isolated site and with a budget capped at €50,000.

Objectifs :

Objectives:

Create a secondary school accessible to the village, build with the resources available on site, limit heat gain, protect the classrooms from seasonal rains and allow simple construction by local workers.

Solution :

Vue axonométrique de l’aménagement des berges de la Yodogawa, à Osaka

Yodogawa riverbank development

Contexte :

Context:

In Osaka, the Yodogawa separates two forms of city: to the north, a more traditional, pedestrian urban fabric; to the south, a modern city shaped by large infrastructure. The riverbanks, largely devoted to occasional leisure, remain little used in everyday life despite their major role in the landscape and in people’s journeys.

Objectifs :

Objectives:

Connect the two urban banks with an inhabited pedestrian route, bring everyday uses back to the riverbanks, create spaces that encourage social interaction and give the river an active role in the relationship between city, nature and culture.

Solution :

Solution:

The site study first identified the Yodogawa as a boundary between two forms of city and as a space that is widely crossed but little inhabited. The project is then organised as an inhabited street along the riverbank, structured around necessary, optional and social activities. Programmes for work, learning, culture and contemplation gradually accompany the route. The proposal was developed through a site plan, plans, sections, axonometric views and perspectives.

Résultats :

Results:

An inhabited street on the riverbank

Maison individuelle réaménagée à La Tour-d’Aigues, façade sud avec jardin d’hiver et moucharabieh

Remodelling of a private house

Contexte :

Context:

In La Tour-d’Aigues, the ground floor of a private house was mainly taken up by service spaces, while getting upstairs was becoming difficult for a retired couple. With the north and east façades constrained by flood risk, the project naturally turned towards the garden to the south.

Objectifs :

Objectives:

Bring the living spaces together on the ground floor, make movement easier for a person with reduced mobility, improve natural light, take advantage of the south orientation and create a more direct relationship with the garden while preserving the privacy of the domestic spaces.

Solution :

Solution:

The project starts from an analysis of the existing building, circulation, sunlight and site constraints. The main functions of the home are grouped on the ground floor to limit movement. A south-facing winter garden is created as a bioclimatic buffer space, bringing light and warmth in winter while providing shade and ventilation in summer. The bathroom also opens onto the south garden and is screened by a mashrabiya to keep light, views and privacy.

Résultats :

Results:

Bioclimatic winter garden
Privacy preserved on the garden side
